Business PCs on Microsoft’s paid Extended Security Updates stop getting them after October 13, 2026, unless the business pays for another year. Microsoft lists business Extended Security Updates at $61 per device for the first year, doubling each year. The years are cumulative, so joining in year two means paying for year one as well.
Special long-term editions of Windows 10 (called LTSC) have their own, later dates. If your IT team set those up, ask them.
If your business still has Windows 10 PCs
- Find them all. Send this page to everyone and ask them to click the button, or pull the list from your device-management report.
- Check which can move. Microsoft’s free PC Health Check app tells you whether a PC meets the Windows 11 requirements.
- Decide PC by PC. Upgrade the ones that can move, replace the ones that can’t, and buy Year 2 only for machines that genuinely can’t change yet.

Does a business PC stop working on October 13, 2026?
No. Microsoft says Windows 10 keeps working after support ends. What stops is security fixes. On October 13, 2026, Year 1 of paid business Extended Security Updates ends. A business PC keeps getting security fixes after that only if Year 2 has been bought for it.
Can a business use the free consumer extension that runs to October 2027?
No. Microsoft says the consumer Extended Security Updates program can’t be used in commercial scenarios, and enrollment isn’t offered on PCs joined to a company domain or managed by device-management software.
How much does business Extended Security Updates cost?
Microsoft lists $61 per device for the first year, and the price doubles each year, for up to three years. The years are cumulative: a business that joins in year two pays for year one too.
Why can’t the check tell Windows 10 from Windows 11 in Firefox or Safari?
Those browsers don’t share that detail with web pages. Open this page in Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome, or check by hand: press the Windows key and R, type winver, and press Enter.
